Big Idea Wiki

The Incredible Singing Christmas Tree is the second VeggieTales Christmas album.

Description

The VeggieTales gang is getting ready to put on a Christmas spectacular - a singing Christmas tree. They just need to decide who gets to be the star on top. While Bob will make the ultimate decision, he wants the help of some judges - Archibald, Madame Blueberry, and Mr. Lunt, who wants to be the snarly judge everyone loves to despise. Fun Facts

Trivia

  • This is the first production of several things:
    • The first time Megan Murphy voices Madame Blueberry.
    • The first time Miss Achmetha is mentioned by name since her debut in Esther... The Girl Who Became Queen.
    • The first album released in the 2000s not to have kids singing any of its songs and the first album in this case overall since A Very Veggie Christmas.
    • The first holiday-themed album to feature Madame Blueberry and Petunia Rhubarb.
    • The first production where Blind Lemon Lincoln is referred to by name.
    • The first album to feature a guest performer since Larry-Boy: The Soundtrack.
  • This is the only Christmas album to feature Blind Lemon Lincoln, Lil' Pea, Miss Achmetha, and Petunia Rhubarb.
  • Christmas Sizzle Boy is the only song in this album not to appear in future albums.
  • There are a few differences between pre-production and the final product:
    • Christmas Sizzle Boy was originally going to be called The Christmas Sizzle.
    • Candy Cane Blues was originally titled Candy Line Blues. It is still referred to as such on the back of the CD case, as well as on the CD itself.

Remarks

  • The audio recording of Bob saying "What's that supposed to mean?" is used twice in this album. Similarly, the audio recording of him saying "Ahh" is used three times.
  • Before The Friendly Beasts, Jerry acknowledges himself as playing the role of the donkey, but during the song itself, it is actually Pa Grape who plays this part.
  • After Junior asks The French Peas if they're alright, Jean-Claude replies that they didn't break any bones, to which Phillippe acknowledges that Jean-Claude doesn't have any bones.
  • There are several issues with some of the songs (as shown in the insert), mainly in terms of lyrics:
    • The final lyrics "O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, Soon we will hear you singing" is only shown once, with another repeat of "O Christmas Tree" being shown as the final lyric.
    • Puppy Love has an additional set of lyrics meant for the beginning of the song, but they were likely cut out due to time constraints.
    • Battling Kings has the word "peas" placed above the lyric "Take these pirates off of the stage", but it doesn't have any words preceding or following it, making it seem out of place.
    • Christmas Sizzle Boy has another repeat of "So Sizzle Boy, It's time to do your stuff" before the final lyric, despite it not being used at that point.
    • Candy Cane Blues is missing the lyric before the instrumental break: "I said the Christmastime Candy Cane Blues".
    • The lyrics of What Child is This, Joy to the World, and For Unto Us a Child is Born are from the original versions of each song. Due to this, they have lyrics or words that weren't included in the versions used for this album:
      • What Child is This: the verse that starts with "Why lies he in such mean estate". This verse was not included in the actual song, mainly due to one of the words in that verse being too inappropriate for children.
      • Joy to the World: the verse that starts with "No more let sins and sorrows grow". This was cut out possibly due to that particular verse sounding too depressing.
      • For Unto Us a Child is Born: the lyrics "And the government shall be upon His shoulder".
    • It's About Love is not included in the insert, likely due to there not being enough room to fit it on there.

Goofs

  • Petunia's voice is slightly higher-pitched when she speaks, but it's played at its normal pitch when she sings.
  • Percy Pea is shown in the credits insert with Phil Vischer's list of characters, even though his voice was not heard anywhere in the album (though he is present on the album cover). It is possible he may have been singing in a group with the rest of the cast in at least one of the songs.

Inside References

  • Puppy Love could likely be a nod to Lost Puppies from Esther, given how Miss Achmetha has sung both of these songs and the fact that they both are about puppies.
  • Mr. Lunt being an elf during (and briefly after) Jingle Ka-Ching is a callback to The Toy That Saved Christmas. Mr. Nezzer also mentions his toy factory from that episode at the end of the song.
  • When Junior asks if he could sing, Bob sadly responds with "Go ahead", just like in Madame Blueberry and The Star of Christmas.

Real World References

  • Julie Andrews is an English actress and singer best known for her roles in films such as Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, and The Princess Diaries films.
  • Sally Struthers is an American actress and activist who is known for playing Gloria Stivic in All in the Family, Babette in Gilmore Girls, and Rebecca Cunningham in Disney's TaleSpin.
