Radio Discs were promotional CDs used by radio stations to promote an episode or movie for VeggieTales. They usually contained pre-recorded responses for the interviews, songs from the episode/movie they were promoting, sound bites, and radio spots.

Due to the popularity of VeggieTales, Big Idea made many of these promotional CDs with radio interviews, as well as promotional DVDs to promote upcoming episodes/events. The only radio discs that are known to exist are listed below.

List[]

Fun Facts[]

Trivia[]

  • According to one of the interview questions on the 3-2-1 Penguins! radio disc, the Penguins met each other in the Falklands. This was also where Granddad Conrad got the penguin figurines for Grandmum during their honeymoon, as mentioned in the first episode.
    • It also reveals that Zidgel came from Chicago (the same place where Big Idea was founded).
  • The interview questions for the Cheating Scales of Bullamanka radio disc is the only piece of 3-2-1 Penguins media (at least in the context of the original series) where Midgel mentions both Jason and Michelle by name at the same time.
  • The Leggo My Ego! interview questions is the only piece of LarryBoy: The Cartoon Adventures media where Junior's parents are acknowledged.
  • Unlike other radio discs, the Lyle the Kindly Viking and The Cheating Scales of Bullamanka radio discs have pre-recorded interviewer lines, provided by Steve McKenzie.
  • The Rootin' Tootin' Radio disc is the only radio disc to not be named after the episode it promotes.
  • Due to Big Idea restructuring following their bankruptcy, it is very unlikely radio discs for A Snoodle's Tale and Sumo of the Opera exist.
  • During one of LarryBoy's interview responses on the LarryBoy and the Angry Eyebrows disc, it is revealed that his dislike for the secret pneumatic Larry-tube stems from an accident he had as a kid, in which he got stuck in one of the tubes seen at the drive-up windows of banks.
  • On the Jonah home video radio disc, one of Khalil's interview answers reveals that the scene inside the belly of the whale was actually filmed in a shopping mall in Lombard, Illinois. This was where Big Idea had its studio located at the time the film was produced.

Remarks[]

  • Archibald's voice is heard during the VeggieTales Spectacular radio spot on the Esther radio disc, despite the fact that he does not actually appear in that episode (although he was originally going to appear, according to a storyboard reel found on the DVD).
  • On the Jonah radio disc, the normal version of The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything doesn't have the announcer's opening line, nor does it has the Pirates' dialogue at the end of the song. The first few seconds of the song are also cut.
  • Although not necessarily a goof, if you listen closely, you can hear some of the vocals during the instrumental version of Jonah Was a Prophet on the Jonah home video radio disc.

Goofs[]

  • On the Jonah radio disc, the movie version of Billy Joe McGuffrey and Steak and Shrimp are higher-pitched and slightly sped up. This also occurs with the former song on the Jonah home video radio disc.

Inside References[]

  • During the interview questions on the Larry-Boy: The Radio Disc:
  • During the VeggieTales Spectacular radio spot on the Esther radio disc:
  • On the 3-2-1 Penguins! (2000) radio disc:
    • Zidgel's line "Kevin, make a note of that" is very similar to one of Larry's lines from Larry-Boy and the Rumor Weed.
    • Zidgel mentions that he came to the Falklands to attend medical school, but instead ended up getting a job in shearing sheep. This was also acknowledged on an older Big Idea website, as something Zidgel would do if he weren't on a spaceship crew.
  • On the Lyle radio disc, Junior acknowledges that he had large roles in Dave and the Giant Pickle and the first two LarryBoy episodes.
  • On the Cheating Scales of Bullmanka radio disc, after Zidgel says "Balance!", he laughs the same way he does so after saying "All good, I hope." in the episode it promotes.
  • On the LarryBoy and the Angry Eyebrows radio disc, LarryBoy states that his job as janitor at the Daily Bumble helps him "keep [his] finger on the pulse of [Bumblyburg]" and its supervillains. This is a reference to Archie's conversation with Larry regarding his job on the episode it promotes.
  • On the Ultimate Silly Song Radio Disc, there are plenty of callbacks to The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything, some of which include:
    • Pa Grape being said to look like Cap'n Crunch, which he denies.
    • Pa also yelling "Aaargh!" and Mr. Lunt responding with "Yikes!"
  • On the interview questions for the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything on the Jonah radio disc:
  • On the interview questions for Bob and Larry on the Jonah home video radio disc, Larry expresses his surprise of whales being great spitters despite not having lips. This may be a slight nod to Love My Lips.
  • On the Gideon: Tuba Warrior radio disc, Larry mentions that he and Bob are "all over TV", referencing the fact that VeggieTales had been airing on NBC at the time this episode was produced.

Real World References[]

  • On Larry-Boy: The Radio Disc:
    • LarryBoy states that his plungers being his secret weapon is sort of like Superman's cape, Aquaman's webbed toes, and Jethro Bodine's rope belt.
      • One of the interview questions also mentions Superman being faster than a speeding bullet, referencing part of his iconic introduction.
    • LarryBoy resonds to the question "Why do you have them (referring to his plungers) for ears" with "Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near." This is a reference to the lyrics of the Carpenters song, Close to You.
    • LarryBoy considers playing Mouse Trap with Alfred in response to the question "What's next for LarryBoy?" This game was previously referenced in The Toy That Saved Christmas.
  • On the Ultimate Silly Song radio disc, Pa Grape describes The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything as the "Citizen Kane" of silliness, referencing the 1941 film of the same name. A deleted scene from the video it promotes (as shown on the DVD) also shows Pa describing the song as such.
  • Barry Manilow is an American singer and songwriter born in 1943 and has recorded such hit songs as "Weekend in England", "Can't Smile Without You", and "Copacabana". He is mentioned as LarryBoy's weakness during one of the interview responses on the radio disc for LarryBoy and the Angry Eyebrows.
    • DC Comics characters Batman, Robin, Green Lantern, and Kato, as well as Kathy Lee Gifford and the late Regis Philbin, the original hosts of talk show Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee (currently known as Live with Kelly and Mark), are also mentioned in another one of the interview questions found on that disc. Singers Sting and Charo are also mentioned by LarryBoy in his response to the same question.
  • On the Jonah radio disc:
    • Larry and Pa Grape mention the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz and the 1927 film, The Jazz Singer, respectively, in response to their first interview question.
    • Pa Grape mentions that the storm scene was filmed in the same water tank as the 1995 film, Waterworld.
    • Mr. Lunt mentions the Gilbert and Sullivan opera, The Pirates of Penzance, as something he admires.
  • Dairy Queen (which is mentioned on the Jonah home video radio disc) is an American fast food chain founded in Joilet, Illinois in 1940. It is best known for its various frozen treats such as Blizzards, Orange Julius, Dilly bars, Buster bars, and more.

Fast Forward[]

  • Larry speaks Danish a few times during the interview questions on the Lyle radio disc. Incidentally, he would later go to a Danish immersion camp a few years later.
  • During one of Khalil's interview questions on the Jonah home video radio disc, Khalil foreshadows his appearance in the Silly Song for The Ballad of Little Joe, including the mention of Boyz in the Sink.
  • During one of the behind-the-scenes audio clips on the Jonah home video radio disc, Phil Vischer states that, according to archaeological research, the people of Ninevah worshipped a god who was believed to be named Dagon. This also happens to be the name of a god that the Philistines worshipped, which would be later mentioned in an episode of The VeggieTales Show.
