Big Idea Wiki

Qubo was an American multi-platform children's entertainment service headquartered in West Palm Beach, Florida that was owned by the E. W. Scripps Company (through its Ion Media Networks subsidiary) and formerly NBC. It was launched on September 9, 2006 as a pair of programming blocks on both NBC and Telemundo, on September 15 of that year as a third block on Ion Television, and on January 8, 2007 as a separate 24-hour network (alternatively referred to as "Qubo Channel").

Following NBC's acquisition by Comcast, the Qubo block on NBC was discontinued on June 30, 2012, followed by the block on Telemundo July 1 of that year. Then, following Ion Media's acquisition by the E. W. Scripps Company, Qubo ceased operations entirely on February 26, 2021 on most stations and two days later on February 28, 2021 on Vizio TVs.

It formerly aired VeggieTales, 3-2-1 Penguins!, and LarryBoy: The Cartoon Adventures.

Trivia[]

  • When Qubo aired VeggieTales on TV, NBC ordered Big Idea to remove all mentions of God and religion, at the request of NBC's Standards and Practices department to not advocate any one religious view.
    • However, King George and the Ducky is the only episode aired on TV with no edits besides the commercial breaks.
    • Gideon: Tuba Warrior is also the only episode aired on Qubo where the religious references couldn't be removed because the episode would have no plot whatsoever.
