Real-World References
- This episode appears to retell The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant, with Larry in the title role and Bob as the King AND the Lesser Servant.
- The Unforgiving Servant could not repay his huge debt to the king, and he begged for patience until the King forgave him for all of it.
- Larry's mistake, or "debt", was breaking Bob's only pair of special eclipse sunglasses. He didn't know how to repair them, and eclipses are astronomical events beyond his control, so Larry couldn't even attempt to fix this mistake because it cost Bob his one shot at viewing the eclipse safely. After Bob spent some time alone, he chose to forgive Larry for his irreparable error because their friendship is ALSO once-in-a-lifetime. He later took precautions to prevent it from mattering so much if it happened again.
- After the Unforgiving Servant was released from his debt to the King, he ran into one of his own servants. The Lesser Servant owed him a smaller sum, and he begged for patience from his master just as his master had done to the king. Remember: the Lesser Servant's debt to the Unforgiving Servant was smaller compared to his debt to the king. Sadly, the title character refused to forgive the Lesser Servant.
- Bob's mistake, or "debt", was accidentally vacuuming and burning the Largest Pizza coupon Larry won at a bulldozer contest. Deeply remorseful, he begged his devastated friend to let him make him 30 pizzas to make it up to him. Compared to Larry's "debt" (remember, he couldn't do anything to fix it), Bob has proven himself a good cook, so Bob's "debt" to Larry is smaller because his expertise in the kitchen puts him slightly in control of how to write his wrong. Unfortunately, Larry also needed alone time, too mad to forgive Bob and accept his offer.
- When the King caught the Unforgiving Servant unwilling to forgive the Lesser Servant, he ends the Parable by revoking his mercy, throwing the title character in jail until he can pay back everything he owed.
- Unlike the Unforgiving Servant, Larry's actions give the retelling a happy ending. During his alone time, Larry heard that Bob was in trouble; Bob didn't know how to drive Larry's bulldozer (this is the half of Bob's "debt" that he couldn't control), so while trying to learn, it went out of control and he got himself stuck between two buildings. Larry quickly set off to rescue him, and once they were together on the machine, Bob explained he was simply trying to win Larry's pizza back. Realizing Bob put himself in danger just to try and restore their friendship, Larry fixes the mess he caused by finally forgiving Bob. He saves him and drives out to the Koi Pond, where another eclipse seems to be happening. Everyone quickly realizes, however, that this is no eclipse - it's Larry's Largest Pizza, which is being given to him even without a coupon!
- The Unforgiving Servant could not repay his huge debt to the king, and he begged for patience until the King forgave him for all of it.
