• Larry mistakenly thought Bob said the Philippines, the southeast Asian islands, instead of the Philistines. Despite their similar names, the two were completely unrelated as the Philistines lived in the eastern Mediterranean region, far removed from the Philippines. The islands themselves were named after King Philip II of Spain, who ruled during the Spanish colonization of the archipelago in the 16th century. The name "Philippines" comes from "Las Islas Filipinas," which means "the Philippine Islands." On the other hand, the name "Philistines" is believed to have come from the Hebrew word "Peleshet" (פְּלֶשֶׁת), which means "Philistia" or "the land of the Philistines."
