Os Vegetais (often stylized as os VegeTais) is the Brazilian dub of VeggieTales, in the Portuguese language.
The series was initially dubbed twice during the mid-1990s (exact year unknown, likely 1996 or 1997) and during 2004-2006 in Rio de Janeiro at dubbing studio Audio News. A new dub was produced in the city of Rio de Janeiro at the studio Herbert Richers during late 2006-2007, but discontinued as a result of the studio shutting down after Herbert Richers (the founder of the studio named after him) died on November 20, 2009.

Fun Facts[]
Trivia[]
- The first five episodes were the only ones dubbed during the time when Brazilian president Fernando Cardoso was in office. By the time when the episodes were redubbed for their original DVD releases and later VHS releases, Lula da Silva was already in office.
- Characters have gone through multiple voice actors in the 1st dub, especially Archibald Asparagus.
- When the wise men are taking Daniel to the lion's den in the 1st dub, they get the speaking role in the scene instead of Daniel.
So you're a wise man. Do you have the wisdom of where we're taking you? We're taking you to the lion's den. You know the sad thing? It's that I believed in you.
- References to the boogeyman in Where's God When I'm S-Scared? are replaced with the term "cara feia," loosely translating to "ugly face."
- Even though this name is used to refer to said character, the term recognized in Brazil to refer to him is "Bicho Papão" (which is what he is called in the 3rd dub).
- Text onscreen is read by a male voiceover. However, the VeggieTales logo in the theme song is read by a young girl (although only in the second Audio News dub).
- At the beginning of The Star of Christmas, Cavis reads the newspaper entry for Seymour out loud.
- The Herbet Richers dub has a male voiceover saying the episode title. Most videos have it said as the corresponding segment starts or on their respective title card, but there are some exceptions:
- God Wants Me to Forgive Them?!? and Madame Blueberry (the announcer is heard during the fade-in to the opening countertop)
- The End of Silliness? (the announcer is heard after the theme song)
- Lyle the Kindly Viking (no announcer is heard introducing both segments)
- The Ballad of Little Joe (the announcer is heard as the ending credits start)
- Duke and the Great Pie War (the announcer is heard saying the title twice; the first instance is the title card before the countertop, the second instance is when the "Princess and the Pie War" segment starts)
- The VHS releases of the first dub have the Word Entertainment and Everland Entertainment logos on their spines and backs in addition to the Buenna Vista Films logo.
- Some episodes were exclusively aired on TV in Brazil, which are:
- Larry-Boy! and the Fib from Outer Space! (The Audio News dub of this episode was unreleased but a cut-up version of it made its way into an episode of Os Amigos Vegetais, while the Herbert Richers dub only aired on SBT; a home video release of this episode was originally planned around 2004 according to an advertisement)
- The End of Silliness?
- Larry-Boy and the Rumor Weed
- The Ultimate Silly Song Countdown
- Five episodes have been rumored to have been dubbed:
- Josh and the Big Wall! - Evidence of this is given by the songs' appearance in the Herbert Richers dub of The End of Silliness?. However, it is unknown whether the full episode was dubbed.
- Jonah Sing-Along Songs and More! - Debunked as it has been confirmed that any dub of Jonah Sing-Along Songs and More! never existed.
- Lord of the Beans - It most likely doesn't exist due to copyright troubles with the Lord of the Rings parody.
- LarryBoy and the Bad Apple and Very Silly Songs! - both of these episodes were rumored to have a dub in existence, but this has been unconfirmed.
- The reasons for the show being re-dubbed twice are as follows:
- The 1st Audio News dub from the 1990s had several poor translations, character voice mismatching, audio editing errors and improper dialogue breakdown (an example of this would be the 1st dub of Are You My Neighbor?, as covered in the Goofs section below). Oddly enough, the 1st dub's distribution lasted in stores for years up until 2003.
- When TV channel SBT decided to acquire broadcast rights for the series, they thought the Audio News dub was bad and therefore didn't meet SBT's standards. This led to SBT insisting on redubbing the series at the studios of Herbert Richers, and in turn resulted in a fight between Marco Ribeiro (founder of Audio News) and the CEO of Big Idea Brasil.
- Additionally, according to Marco, he was very saddened by how things turned out, especially because many projects had been canceled, such as a CD (the name is unknown) that was being dubbed at Audio News.
- Because of this, Marco rarely talks about VeggieTales nowadays.
- As Big Idea Brasil's partnership with SBT was not very productive, the following outcomes occurred:
- They (SBT) sometimes provided cut masters to Big Idea Brasil rather than the uncut masters for some episodes. For example, TV airings and the DVD release of Gideon: Tuba Warrior are missing the countertops as well as The Story of George Mueller. It also uses the intro from the secular international version.
- Additionally, Sumo of the Opera and TV airings of Duke and the Great Pie War and Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Samson's Hairbrush used the secular international versions.
- They (SBT) had only released a few DVDs, leading to most of the episodes that were dubbed being lost or kept hidden, until they were gradually found and released online, being recovered from both old recordings and new airings on a Christian focused channel called Rede Boas Novas.
Remarks[]
- The 2nd and 3rd dubs sometimes dub in more character grunts and noises which were not present in the original English version, such as when Larry appears on screen for the first time in the theme song in the 2nd dub.
- The 1st dub's has had audio quality issues present as follows:
- The backing track used was in inferior audio quality, much to a kinescope-like degree.
- VCR buzzing is clearly heard in the dubbed dialogue tracks.
- The voice actor for Frankencelery in the 1st dub of Where's God When I'm S-Scared? and other characters throughout is likely a foreigner and has a noticeable accent when speaking Portuguese sentences.
- All three dubs alternate between changing and not changing the names of real locations mentioned in the show (such as when reading a viewer letter, or Frankencelery revealing where he lives) to locations in Brazil.
- In the 1st dub of Where's God When I'm S-Scared?, Geisa Vidal – who dubbed the female narrator for Daniel and the Lion's Den – oddly also dubbed the Silly Song Announcer's lines in The Water Buffalo Song. For Are You My Neighbor? silence is used instead of any announcer.
- In the 1st dub, Jimmy and Jerry Gourd are given very high pitched voices.
- In the 1st dub, Bob refers to Qwerty by his English name instead of "Micro". He also sometimes calls him "Computador" (Computer).
- In The Star of Christmas, Miss Pickering says "cajueiro" (cashew) rather than "ameixa" (plum). This was done in order to rhyme with "bombeiro" (firefighter).
- This drastically alters the scene so that Miss Pickering appears to be unable to remember the word "bombeiro" being used in the title for The Princess and the Plumber, rather than having her stop midway through the word "plumber".
- On the compilation releases of Where's God When I'm S-Scared?, God Wants Me to Forgive Them!?!, Rack, Shack and Benny, Dave and the Giant Pickle, Madame Blueberry, King George and the Ducky, and Lyle the Kindly Viking, the closing countertops are omitted from the mass market versions distributed by Paramount. Releases labeled "Versão Bíblica" keep the episodes uncut and with the closing countertops intact.
- The Portuguese subtitles on the compilation releases for Madame Blueberry, Rack, Shack and Benny, Esther and King George are literal translations from the English dialogue and (aside from the few songs available as Karaoke options) do not entirely match the dubbed dialogue.
- In the Brazilian Portuguese Herbert Richers dubs of God Wants Me to Forgive Them!?!, Rack, Shack and Benny, Dave and the Giant Pickle, Madame Blueberry, and A Snoodle's Tale and in the Brazilian Portuguese dubs of The End of Silliness?, Sumo of the Opera, Sheerluck Holmes and the Golden Ruler, and Gideon: Tuba Warrior, the laughter is taken from Hollywoodedge, Fast Juicy Pie Splat CRT019701 rather than the sound that the 3rd dub generally uses.
- In the Brazilian Portuguese Audio News dub of A Snoodle's Tale, the opening countertop scene refers Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with the European Portuguese title Dr. Jekyll e Mr. Hyde. This was fixed in the Brazilian Portuguese Herbert Richers dub, which now gives it the Brazilian title O Médico e o Monstro.
Goofs[]
- In the 1st dub of the VeggieTales Theme Song (this is known to have occurred in Where's God When I'm S-Scared?), after Bob says "Have we got a show for you!", the rest of the song is oddly undubbed. This is likely changed in the episodes to follow.
- In the 1st dub of Daniel and the Lion's Den, a studio member in the background says "Uhhhh" at the moment when King Darius is about to say "I guess that'll do it!"
- In the 1st dub of Daniel and the Lion's Den, during the scene where Scallions #2 and #3 yell at Daniel from above the lion's den, Scallion #2 is mistakenly dubbed with Scallion #1's voice.
- In the 1st dub of The Story of Flibber-o-loo, Bob does not say "...<insert character name here> said" after certain dialogue spoken by characters.
- In the 1st dub of The Hairbrush Song, there is no narration in the beginning, but when the narrator kicks in, the narration is slightly out of sync with the song, speaking earlier than he should and overlapping the singers. This continues up until Bob appears.
- In the 1st Audio News dub of Are You My Neighbor?, during the closing countertop, the last stanza of the theme song oddly plays instead of What We Have Learned, also played twice to fill in the gaps for said song. The reason for this is unknown, as the song had been previously dubbed already in Where's God When I'm S-Scared?
- In the original dub of The Star of Christmas, "dental wax" is translated as "creme dental," which refers to toothpaste.
- In the 2nd dub of God Wants Me to Forgive Them!?!, Junior is not heard crying, although his mouth moves as if he is and tears still appear.
- Chapter 8 on its DVD release is also missing as well.
- In the 2nd dub of Dave and the Giant Pickle, right before the credits, Larry-Boy isn't heard whistling, although he still does the motion for it.
- In the Brazilian Portuguese Audio News dub of Esther... The Girl Who Became Queen, after when she was singing "The Battle is Not Ours", when the scallion is asking her name, she says it out loud.
- In the re-dub of A Snoodle's Tale, the What Have We Learned song has no vocals.
- In the Bob Lends a Helping...Hand? storybook, the English voices can be heard.[2]
- On the DVD of Are You My Neighbor?, the DVD Rom, Images, and Scripts, are odly included as files on the DVD in their English form.
- In the "Diversão!" section of the dvd, "DVD Rom" is misspelled as "DVD Room".
