Big Idea Wiki

Mordecai is the deuteragonist of Esther: The Girl Who Became Queen. He is portrayed by Pa Grape.

Mordecai is the cousin and guardian of Esther, and later the cousin-in-law of King Xerxes after Esther's marriage to him.

He worked as a guard around Xerxes' palace. He taught Esther to never be afraid to confront her friend who stole an apple. Just then, Haman came to collect the women for Xerxes. Although Esther was initially not interested in this, Mordecai told her to go for her own good.

Later, Mordecai meets up with his cousin in Xerxes' palace, and explains to her that Haman hated their family and that she shouldn't let anyone know they were related. Esther becomes frustrated about having to stay in the palace, but Mordecai tells her that God has a reason for her situation. He then leaves the palace, promising Esther he will visit her again.

After Esther becomes the queen of Persia, Mordecai comes to congratulate her, but Esther tells him that she didn't wish to be queen. Mordecai comforts Esther by telling her there must be a reason she became queen, before he leaves again. Esther asks Mordecai what Xerxes is like, and Mordecai tells her that he is "sharp" and thinks that Esther will really like him.

The next morning, during Esther's coronation, Mordecai spots the Peaoni Brothers trying to kill Xerxes, and warns Esther about their plot. After Esther exposes the Peaoni Brothers' plot, Xerxes avoids their trap on time, which causes the Peaoni Brothers to run away, only to be stopped by Mordecai. The Peaoni Brothers were then sent to the Island of Perpetual Tickling.

That night, Mordecai realizes Haman plotted to send him, Esther, and his family to the Island of Perpetual Tickling, so he comes to tell Esther that she must go to Xerxes. Esther refuses because she is afraid she will either be killed or be banished by Xerxes. Mordecai advices to Esther that God had a reason for everything that happened to her, and that she never needs to be afraid to do the right thing. He then tells Esther that he and his family will pray for her before he leaves again.

The next night, Mordecai was standing near some doors (possibly praying for Esther) before he spots Haman. Haman tells Mordecai to bow to him in exchange for letting his family go. However, Mordecai refuses, which causes Haman to get angry as he tells Mordecai that he will banish him and his family immediately.

After Xerxes banished Haman to the Island of Perpetual Tickling for scheming against him and Esther as well as his family, Mordecai was promoted to Haman's former position as Xerxes' right-hand man.
