Big Idea Wiki

The first instance of characters moving things without hands.

Because VeggieTales started out with characters without visible arms or legs, it seems impossible that any of the characters would move objects. However, they seemed to do this without any problems.

There are also occasions where characters mention that they don't have any of those body parts, or other body parts like necks, feet, fingers, or toes.

  • VeggieTales Theme Song (First Version) - Before the song started, Bob suggested that Larry should play the guitar. Larry tells him that he doesn't have any hands, so Bob then suggested the sousaphone.
  • Rack, Shack and Benny - Benny (Larry) told Rack (Bob) that he can't move his arms. However, Rack told him that he doesn't have any arms.
  • Josh and the Big Wall! - Everyone applauded when Jimmy and Jerry unveil their new weapon. Tom asked Pa Grape how they are clapping, and Pa replied that he has no idea.
  • Madame Blueberry - While Bob and Larry were sobbing emotionally after the story, Larry told Bob to hold him, and Bob said that he would if he could. He can't because he has no arms.
  • Lyle the Kindly Viking - After the reprise of Share of Friends, Bjorn (Mr. Lunt) says that he'd clap if he could. He can't because he has no hands.
  • VeggieTown Values - In one of the first segments, Larry claimed that he knows VeggieTown like the back of his hand, but Bob told him that he doesn't have any hands. Also, in one of the On The Job segments, Bob explained to Larry that oven mitts should be worn on his hands, not his head. Larry then told him he doesn't have any hands.
  • Jonah: An Overboard Adventure! and Jonah Sing-Along Songs and More! - In the final countertop segment, Larry stated that since Archibald won't come out of his dressing room to play Jonah in the movie, he and Bob would have to "take matters into [their] own hands, so to speak."
  • Bob & Larry's Backyard Party - Between both parts of the Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes...Do Your Ears Hang Low? medley, Pa Grape stated that doing the "head, shoulders" things is hard for a grape.
  • Pirates' Boat Load Of Fun - After We're Vikings, Larry claimed that he was tapping his toes with enthusiasm throughout most of the album. Mr. Lunt points out that cucumbers don't have toes, with Pa Grape remarking that Larry was speaking metaphorically.
  • O Veggie, Where Art Thou? - At the beginning, after the power goes out, Larry suggests that he and the other veggies should practice making hand shadows on the wall, but then he realizes they could only do so if they actually had hands.
  • The TV version of Esther... The Girl Who Became Queen - Pa Grape asked Archibald when his sweater would be finished, before leading to the fact that whoever knitted it forgot to have arms.
  • Lord of the Beans - After Larry obtained his unicycle, Bob asked how he can move it without touching the pedals. All Larry said is that he has a gift.
  • Bob & Larry's Toddler Songs - In The Hand Song, Pa Grape stated that the song "works great unless you're a veggie." Additionally, after the "Hug a friend's neck" part of the song, he said that he doesn't have a neck either.
  • Bob & Larry Sing the 70s - At the end of the album, Pa Grape, exhausted from all the skating he during throughout the entire album, stated that his dogs were barking. This confused Mr. Lunt, who asked Pa if he brought dogs to the skating rink. Pa explained that it was a euphemism for "feet," which led to Mr. Lunt (now even more confused) asking "You brought feet to the skating rink?"
  • The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie - The Swedish dub is titled "Piraterna som inte lyfte ett finger," translating to "The pirates who didn't lift a finger." Also in the movie, Sedgewick (Mr. Lunt) swam 92 miles without arms or legs after avoiding the cheese curd monsters.

After he mentioned that it involved using bare hands, Pa replied "Think about that for a second," indirectly acknowledging the fact that the veggies don't have hands. Larry quickly realized this and suggested that they go "mudding" instead.
  • The Little House That Stood - Bob and Larry were confused by Mr. Lunt's "Brick a leg" pun, moreso by the "leg" part.
  • Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas - Roadie Reggie (Mr. Lunt) tried to convince Philip Fleagle (Bob) to give him a high five, but Philip, smiling awkwardly, didn't do so. Reggie then asked Philip to give him a "low five" instead, but to no avail. Though this is not acknowledged, this was probably because Philip does not have hands.
    • Later on, Reggie stated that he has got a few tricks up his sleeves, which confused Philip. Reggie then responded with "You know what I mean."
  • Celery Night Fever - Dennis (Bob) said "Talk to the hand", but Lanny (Larry) told him he doesn't have hands.
  • Beauty and the Beet - Sabrina stated that it was so cold outside that she couldn't feel her toes. Katrina pointed out that she doesn't have toes. This leads Sabrina to respond with "Oh, that's why."
