God Wants Us to Make Peace is the pilot episode of The VeggieTales Show that teaches a lesson in making peace. It is the second episode of the series, but the first episode produced.

Summary[]

Bob is very excited about his new idea for a Veggie show and is quite sure that the only way for a good show to happen is for Bob to put himself and his ideas first. The rest of the Veggie crew audition for the show with all kinds of fun ideas but not surprisingly Bob’s first attitude causes all kinds of trouble. It’s only when Pa Grape shares the story of Abraham who chooses to make peace with his nephew Lot that Bob learns a valuable lesson in getting along.

Plot[]

The episode begins with Bob being talked by Mr. Nezzer in hopes of using his theater to put on a new vegetable production. A potted plant in his office begins to start shaking and talking to Bob and Mr.Nezzer questions who Bob's talking to. Bob tries to ignore the plant and continue to talk to Mr.Nezzer about putting on a new show and Nezzer wonders if the rest of the veggies would be joining him, to which Bob retorts by saying that he kinda wants to do his own thing. The plant then moves over to Bob, whispering gibberish into his ear before Bob exclaims to the plant that he already has an idea for the show, which makes Mr.Nezzer grow more suspicious to who Bob is talking to.

Larry then jumps out of the plant, and speaks to Mr.Nezzer about putting on a show, in front of a live theater. Bob thought Larry was going to stay outside like he had asked him to do, but Larry says that he was too excited. Bob then tells Larry that he has a habit of making messes. Larry then gets up to leave, but knocks down a lamp and then proceeds to run into a bookshelf, knocking over a few books. Larry then says he doesn't know what Bob is talking about before yet again making a huge mess, this time a bowling ball rolls off of the bookshelf that Larry knocked into, as

Production[]

This episode was originally the first in production and going to be released first, but the network requested the team make a Christmas special first as to have a video release for the 2019 holiday season. This meant the production for this episode was put on hold until the other show was complete (or at least very far down the production pipeline).

Fun Facts[]

Explanations[]

  • Homeschooling is where instead of students attending a public school, their parents teach them education at home.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first time for a few things:
    • The first episode that Big Idea worked with 88 Pictures, who took over animation production after Prana Studios shut down.
    • The first episode where Archibald narrates the story, as well as the first time he quotes a verse.
    • The first appearance of Laura in the show, her first appearance with her original design since Celery Night Fever, and her first appearance overall since Bye Bye Bacon Bill!.
    • The first episode where Larry does not have a part in the main story.
    • The first episode to use more than one verse since The Little House That Stood, and the first to have more than one verse quoted since God Loves You Very Much.
  • The fonts in the logo are DiscoMonkey and Fontdinerdotcom Loungy.
  • The verse that Archibald quotes at the end of Act 2 of the Abraham and Lot story is Matthew 9:5.
  • This is the second time that there's been a VeggieTales version of the story of Abraham and Lot.
  • There were a few differences between pre-production and the final product:
    • After Bob complains to the peas about their song, his groan was slightly longer.
    • Pa Grape didn't say, "I just tried to bring you a snack," after Bob angrily told him to get on stage.

Remarks[]

  • In the storyboards for the episode, characters such as Petunia, Mr. Lunt, Junior and Larry were present as Bob was handing out scripts for the story of Abraham and Lot. But for some reason, their appearances in the scene were cut from the final animation of the episode.
  • Pa Grape in the Bible story is oddly referred to as Abraham even though at the time his name was Abram.

Goofs[]

  • The character’s lip-syncing does not match up with the audio in some scenes.
  • Larry is missing his tooth in some shots.
  • During the meeting in Mr. Nezzer’s office, when Larry starts making noise behind the potted plant, Mr. Nezzer asks Bob who he's talking to. This question does not make sense as Bob had not spoken to anyone but Mr. Nezzer thus far into the scene.
  • When the veggies hop towards the theater doors to see Goliath, the French Peas are seen wearing blue and white French outfits (which they would wear during World Peas later in the episode), despite the fact that they were not wearing any costumes beforehand. Their costumes eventually disappear in the shot where Mr. Nezzer tells Goliath that he is going to be in the show.
  • There are many continuity errors throughout the theme song, including character placement between shots.
  • After the theme song, Laura is seen wearing a top hat and leaving the stage with the other veggies, but she was never seen anywhere in (nor sung) the theme song.
  • Both Petunia and Philippe have lines of dialogue that have not been pitch-shifted.
  • The fortune cookie shrinks in size after being opened.
  • Both the episode's description and the song Peace erroneously refer to Lot as Abraham's cousin, when he is actually Abraham's nephew.

Inside References[]

  • Many references are made to the original VeggieTales series in conversation between characters.
  • The photos in Mr. Nezzer's office include:
  • Mr. Nezzer has pictures of the following characters on his desk:
  • The photos used on the bulletin board backstage include:
  • Goliath is revealed to have been working as a pizza delivery guy and is shown with the Pizza Angel logo on on his uniform.
  • In the backstage area, there is a backdrop of a throne room that looks very similar to Prince John's from Robin Good and His Not-So-Merry Men.
  • The costume rack seen in the backstage area is a recolored version of the costume rack from the opening countertop scene of The Little House That Stood.
  • Jean-Claude and Philippe's French outfits appear to be very similar to Bob and Larry's butler outfits from Madame Blueberry.
  • The rule that the oldest gets to decide would be a reference to Trouble on Planet Wait-Your-Turn
  • Pa Grape and Jimmy both have the same reused costumes from The Best Christmas Gift. This time, however, Pa Grape’s costume returns to its original color scheme as seen in Abe and the Amazing Promise.
    • Additionally, Pa Grape and Jimmy reprise their roles as Abraham and Lot, respectively.
    • Also, the backdrop of the good land and the bad land is very similar to the lands from the aforementioned episode.
  • An instrumental rendition of What Have We Learned is heard at the end of the episode.
